Burundi celebrates the 59th anniversary of independence

On July 1st of each year, Burundi celebrates its independence. The 59th anniversary ceremonies were chaired by the Head of State, His Excellency General Major Evariste Ndayishimiye, accompanied by the First Lady of Burundi, Her Excellency Angeline Ndayishimiye, and many other authorities of the country and the foreign delegations headed by the President of the Central African Republic, His Excellency Faustin Archange Touadera.

The ceremonies began with a meditation and the laying of wreath of flowers at the Mausoleum of Prince Louis Rwagasore by the Head of State and the First Lady as well as the diplomatic corps.

The ceremonies continued at Independence Square where the presidential couple and the dean of the diplomatic corps also laid wreaths.
The real ceremonies took place at the Independence Boulevard, near the Intwari stadium, in BujumburaMayorship.

After the review of the troops by the Head of State, a long, colorful parade took place. The ceremonies were also livened up by the Burundian drum, the Intore dancers of Kirundo, the paratroopers, and other military and police games in order to prove that the country can count on its sons and daughters to ensure the internal security of the country and protect the limits of the country.
