The Head of State calls for a patriotic leap to increase revenues and accelerate economic development
This Thursday, December 3, 2020, the President of the Republic His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye enhanced the closing ceremonies of the week dedicated to the taxpayer organized by the Burundi Revenue Authority(OBR) and which took place at Ku Gasaka Stadium in Ngozi Province.
These activities began with the official inauguration of the Hotel Belan erected at the chief town of Ngozi province to mark the support of the Government of Burundi for local entrepreneurial initiatives. To express gratitude, the Belan Group, owner of the hotel , granted to the Head of State a work of art with effigies made by a local artist.
The President of the Republic then discusses with many taxpayers during a visit to the stands of the exhibition fair organized for a week on the lawn of Ku Gasaka Stadium. He congratulated them for their invaluable contribution in the development of the country.
There, followed the welcoming speeches made respectively by the Governor of Ngozi Province, the Commissioner General of the OBR and the Minister in charge of Finance and Planning. They all came back to the important role that the taxpayer plays in the economy of a Nation. They hailed the growing collective awareness of the need for every citizen to meet their tax obligations.
In his speech for the occasion marking the end of the week dedicated to the taxpayer, the Head of State His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye recalled the duty of each citizen in building a prosperous economy through the payment of taxes in accordance with the fiscal law of Burundi:
“It is not possible for a country to develop without the involvement and contribution of all citizens. It is not the role of the Government to develop the country, it only plays the role of regulator, facilitator, manager, support and coordinator. I reaffirm the commitment of the Government of Burundi to support the production efforts provided by the population and investors, mainly those who participate in job creation and those who duly pay their taxes . ”
By presenting Incentive Prizes to the best taxpayers, His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye warned tax evaders and some Administrators who are guilty of complicity or complacency. He urges the Ministry of Justice to crack down on all forms of fraud and corruption. For the President of the Republic , tax evaders and their accomplices pull the country’s economy down and that they should be prosecuted by justice as criminals.
