The Head of State calls for respect of the population, the national territory and the laws in force
In his message at the closing of the commemoration ceremonies of Burundi’s 59th anniversary, the Head of State, His Excellency General Major Evariste Ndayishimiye, gave strong advice to Burundi to be able to continue to live in harmony and avoid trouble. He calls for respect of the population, the national territory and the laws in force.
The President of the Republic first reminded the assembly that before the arrival of the colonizers, the Burundians were a well-organized economically, industrially and socially, but that the colonizer did nothing instead he retreated this step which had already been reached. “The Burundians were united, spoke a single language, belonged to a single ethnic group but the colonizer sowed hatred among the Burundians and initiated the division by qualifying the Burundians of Hutu, Tutsi and Twa ethnic groups without any founded basis.
The Head of State asked the international community and the former colonizers of Burundi, namely Belgium and Germany, to collaborate and support their former colony, Burundi, for the discovery of the truth given that there is an important portion of the archives of its history which are kept in these colonizing countries. He, as well, requested those countries repair the hearts of Burundians broken physically and morally.
His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye, President of the Republic, urged the countries which host the country’s detractors, the coup plotters and the country’s enemies in general to collaborate so that justice is made for these people wanted by the Burundian justice.
The Head of State also said that Burundi has so many natural resources as those in the possession by the developed countries. He said that if these resources are properly exploited in a way that benefits all parties, Burundi would be a paradise in so few years. He also announced that all mining contracts which were established in illicit conditions or which present deficiencies will soon be suspended or terminated so that the country’s natural resources really contribute to the development of Burundi and Burundians.
The President of the Republic of the Republic pointed out the good management of public affairs. He warned the ministries that will not carry out projects in all the communes of the country in relation to the budget law which begins with July 2021. He urged the ministerial officials to be at the service of all citizens, wherever they are. He criticized the concentration of capital in the Bujumbura Municipality, specifying that this trend will soon change.
Moreover, His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye emphasized on certain indicators that could motivate the Burundians to celebrate the 59th anniversary of independence with joy, in particular the significant increase in production and the successful results, thanks to the everyone’s efforts, and by divine grace, as well as the fight against COVID-19. He asked Burundians to continue to observe the measures taken to protect themselves and protect others from this pandemic.
Regarding the fight against poverty, the President of the Republic said that he has taken as a hobbyhorse the ministry in charge of agriculture and livestock.
The Head of State reassured the Burundians and the international community on the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. He stated that the result of their inquiries will be presented to the Burundians who will decide at the same time on the follow-up, in order to be able to reconcile for good and turn the page for the well-being of all Burundians.
He ended his speech by thanking all the delegations that came to support the Burundians in this celebration, an unwavering sign of bilateral relations which are good in all aspects, he said.
