The President of the Republic lays the foundation stone on the construction site of Burundi Revenue Authority headquarters


On Thursday, December 17, 2020, the President of the Republic , His Excellency Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE, launched the construction of a twelve-level building that will serve as the headquarters of the Burundi Revenue Authority (OBR). The latter covers an area of 30,000 m2 of Kigobe South, Ntahangwa commune in Bujumbura City. This project of 68 billion Burundi francs is part of the National Development Plan of 2021-2027 and will be fully funded by the government of Burundi.

The ceremonies were marked by the ribbon cut and the laying of the foundation stone on the construction site by the Head of State, in the presence of the Ministers of Finance and Trade, senior officials of the Presidency of the Republic and those from the Burundi Revenue Authority.


According to the expert in charge of this construction, there will be a building for bureaucratic use including auxiliary buildings, a parking that can park more than 1000 vehicles and a garden. Thus, the main building will include a basement for vehicle parking, a ground floor for the restaurant, an archive room, a library, a control room, a data center and a depot.

The 1st floor is designed for three training rooms, a call centre, two archiving rooms, a back office, a GYM equipment room, a gymnasium, a control room and a podium with 932 seats. From the 2nd to the 9th floor, there will be collective offices of 800 seats, 8 meeting rooms with 784 seats and 8 offices with 56 seats. The 10th floor will cover a meeting room with 58 seats, a collective office with 36 seats, the waiting room, two secretarial offices, two assistant offices and two offices of the General Commissioner and his deputy.

As stated by the Minister in charge of Finance, Budget and Development Cooperation, this project will last for 4 years.
