The Head of State officially launches a youth-raising retreat for sustainable development
Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at “Cercle Hippique” in Bujumbura Town Hall, the President of the Republic of Burundi, His Excellency Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE officially launches a retreat for the graduated young people under the theme: “Intellectual Youth, Pioneer of Development”. The two-for these two days, the retreat aim to bring together intellectual youth to discuss strategies for sustainable development. Organized by the Ministry of East African Community Affairs, Youth, Sports and Culture, the illustrious retreat also saw the participation of the Vice-President of the Republic, Ir. Prosper BAZOMBANZA, The Prime Minister, General Allain Guillaume BUNYONI, members of the government and accredited diplomatic missions in Burundi.
In his welcoming speech, the Minister Ezekiel NIBIGIRA thanked the Head of State for his important involvement in the supervision of young people and for having enhanced the official launch of that workshop with his presence.
In his circumstantial speech, the Number One of Burundi said that this retreat is not an ordinary meeting but a special retreat for the development of Burundi with an important involvement of intellectual youth. The Head of State also said that Burundi must develop because it has an arable soil, natural resources and human resources beforehand.
“In the responsible and laborious State, we have declared a fight against poverty. That why, you, young people have been invited to this workshop to take all necessary measures to defeat this fight because there is no reason to be defeated”, he said. He also added that any developed country has been able to focus its efforts on three things: basic satisfaction of its citizens, good governance and environmental protection, and to do so, we must effectively manage well the public thing and have a patriotic spirit.
Furthermore, the President of the Republic assured the youth that Burundi will be developed on the basis of human capital, natural capital and economic capital.
The activities of this retreat were also marked by the various presentations to young people, and the exchanges on challenges and solutions for sustainable development.
